.....
And it went from there. Yes the world got small!
So on Saturday we ended up spending the day together as I toured my new American friend around! Chats of soupplantation comas, round table pizza, anything with a Bertos at the end warmed my heart! Someone who not only gets my culture but has the same local understandings of the place I grew up!
We ended up sharing a huge cultural experience with some Scottish strangers who were watching the rugby game at a local pub. All I can say is wow! This one guy we hung out with is Batman- his name is Bruce Wayne, another who I couldn't understand no matter how much I tried- and the more he drank the less I got, and a few more characters that were just entertaining to be with! Unfortunately we Scotland lost the game but cheering with the Scots was unforgettable. We practiced some Scottish slang (not all appropriate to type) and the American embraced some Scottish whiskey!
My Mr. Tyke is a really wonderful human- but he likes to be in his man cave and doesn't always want to venture out (which drives me crazy). But this weekend he made great efforts for me. After a full days work on Saturday and really not wanting to come our of his cave he did! He joined us for drinks, curry and drinks. Curry was important for the American to eat since it's like Scotland's Mexican food! You know what Mexican food is to San Diego is what indian food is to edinburgh. That would make a great standardized test question....
Anyway what a great great day. Sunday was a lie in- had no choice after being out so late on sat. Mr.Tyke an I then ventured to the Stockbridge farmers market and both made poor choices on our lunch. We then had a coffee date at the blue bear and I think I just giggled at him all day. Sometimes because of a joke he made other times just cause I was feeling happy. Not a bad place to be if you ask me.. especially after a couple down weeks. For dinner, I made Carnitas- Yes, the pork cooked slowly in the oven with amazing citric juices, we had fresh salsa and guac- the boy is spoiled. He had never had carnitas- and I think he would welcome them into his diet again. They were amazing. I was getting a bit worried that the pork wouldn't tender up because I wasn't having it cook all day- but it did amazing things in that last 30 minutes I gave it before taking it out to pour the homemade green sauce over the top!
And today.. today is one of the most beautiful days in the city.
I have a happy heart.
I have some more pics on another camera- I will try to post those up soon!
