So when you move to another country you need to get a Visa to stay in that country. Pretty common sense, right? So when you get accepted into school in another country you should apply immediately, right? No, No, No.. that is wrong. You should apply when you get what is called a CAS letter, I let my excitement get the best of me, and I applied shortly after the acceptance letter came. This means, that a payment of just under 500 bucks went directly to the Visa office for my application. You then make a biometrics appointment. In other words, you get your fingerprints taken by some really wonderful people.. mine were wonderful, I hope yours are too. Here was my hangup. I needed my CAS letter to complete the application. While waiting for the scholarship results, we waited for the CAS letter. I got the scholarship and the CAS letter 90 days after I had originally applied. However, since I was able to continue rescheduling my biometrics appointment, I assumed that my application was still valid. It was not. I continued to reschedule, finally got my CAS letter, went into my appointment, paid the $150 to expedite the processing, paid for the shipping, included the envelope to send back my original documents (more money) and then sent it off. All to have everything returned to me just a couple days later telling me that my application had expired and that I needed to get a new one, and go to another biometrics appointment. AHHHHHH! yes this really happened. So I reapplied, had to pay another $500, another $150, another envelope with shipping for my return documents, and of course the money to ship it there. Oh, and did I mention if you had any questions and wanted to talk to someone on the phone you would have to pay $3.00 per minute to do so? LOVELY! I am very grateful to the wonderful biometrics people who saw me before my next appointment, squeezed me in, the day I got my returned application, so that I could keep my work and family plans here in MD this week. I am also very thankful for the fedex people, who delivered everything to the Consulate safely and back to me safely, not only once, but twice. Lesson learned.... very grateful... the Visa documents were successfully delivered to me. YAY.. I can now officially enter the country!
