What sticks out to me - a year later as I write this- was the view. The day before we had so much fog that we couldn't really see the view from the hotel room. To be honest there were probably a lot of views we couldn't see because of fog and smog :) But this was definitely a fog issue!
I did snap a picture of her with my phone- not the best shot, but I think she looked stunning.
This night, I got to know Molly more. Looking back, now, because I know this writing session is long over due, I really miss the female friends that I made on this trip. I have stayed in touch here and there with some of them. Molly, to me was a treasure this trip. That night, we stayed up, talking and sharing a bottle of wine. Talking about our lives, womanhood, and the expectations society has on us. We shared about the challenges with dating, our own family dynamics and how we ended up in Vietnam. In the background we listened to Nick Cave (music that now every time brings me back to that boat when I hear it) and I can't emphasise enough what a lovely group of people I was able to spend the holiday season with. Memorable and Magical.
I woke up and was guided by a Thai Chi master in a series of movements while we sailed and watching the sunrise. I remember feeling at peace as we sailed along, crisp air, a bit of wind hitting my skin and not a care in the world. I think it is this feeling that I have been chasing after all year- and have not been able to fully replicate.
After breakfast we sailed around and did a bit more exploring- a small hike, a light cave walk and some time walking on the sands of one of the islands we took a little boat to. Halong Bay, what means descending dragon, is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to in the world. If you ever get a chance to go- take it. I promise you will not be disappointed.
